Kilmarnock College: ’Bomb Scare’

At around 11:30 on Monday morning emergency services were alerted to Kilmarnock Campus as a malicious email was received by the Ayrshire College Kilmarncok Campus.
The campus followed emergency protocols and the fire service, and police responded to the incident. The campus was closed to staff and students. There was an extensive search led by key staff members with support from emergency services.
Witch Road and Hill street were on lock down and traffic was diverted along dean street and long park.
Students began posting on social media as the events unfolded.
One posted “can’t believe I struggled to get out of bed this morning for college and get sent home because of a Bomb Scare”
Another said “Kilmarnock college evacuated because of a Bomb Scare”

One student posted the following text message that they had received following the event.

At approx 1:20pm staff and students were allowed to go back inside the building and collect their belongings, and were sent home.
I spoke to a friend who attends the college and they said they were “glad to get home safely”and they were “happy it wasn’t the real thing”.
Another explained the horrifying situation they were in as they helped a close friend who was having a “serious panic attack” and was in a state of “panic”.
